== RE: Additions of http://.boneandcancerfoundation.org

I'd greatly appreciate your editorial help an article about the Bone and Cancer Foundation. The Foundation is not seeking funding, nor is it selling anything. It is simply trying to meet a need expressed by cancer patients and their health care providers for medically reviewed, current information about how to prevent, treat, and manage the spread of cancers to the bone.

I propose the following for your editorial review:

The Bone and Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit health agency in the United States which focuses on cancers that spread to the bone (i.e. bone metatstases) as opposed to those that originate in the bone. This condition affects an estimated 400,000 cancer patients each year, according to the US Centers for Disease Control.

History

The Bone and Cancer Foundation is an outgrowth program of The Paget Foundation for Paget’s disease of Bone and Related Disorders, a national voluntary health agency founded in 1978. The Paget Foundation addresses several benign bone conditions and has also worked in the cancer and bone field for ten years, primarily in the area of medical education and research. The Bone and Cancer Foundation evolved in 1996 to meet a need expressed by health professionals and patients for an authoritative and trustworthy source of information on cancer that spreads to the bone.

Information Provided

The Foundation develops and disseminates information on the latest advances in the treatment of cancer involving bone. The information is provided without charge to cancer patients and family members. It also provides this information in more detailed medical publications for physicians, nurses and other health professionals. The information is developed under the editorial supervision of Dr. G. David Roodman, Vice-Chair, Research, Department of Medicine and Director of the Myeloma Bone Program at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. Dates of publication and latest review are provided. Topics include:

  • Breast Cancer, Bone Metastases, & Treatment-Related Bone Loss;
  • Prostate Cancer, Bone Metastases and Treatment-Related Osteoporosis;
  • Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (ONJ): Information for Cancer Patients; and
  • Myeloma Bone Disease: Current and Future Treatment

Advocacy

The Foundation sdvocates for increased government and private sector funding for research on cancer that involves the bone and related research areas. It also provides grant awards for researchers in this field.
