[edit] It was the Sante Fe Rail Road Not the trail

Had to edit my own information that I got screwed up from stories I was told as a boy living in Winton. These stories are incorrect. It is the Santa Fe Rail Road that the road gets it's name that travels along the rails from Modesto in the North to Merced in the south. I stand corrected, but i did at least research the facts and made the correction
