[edit] This is a silly, pointless and self-serving article.
This is a silly, pointless and self-serving article. There is enough info on Windsor and Detroit in their respective headings. I think those trying to support the "very weak" view that Metro Detroit includes Windsor and other parts of Canada have created this article for self-validation. I suggest this article be deleted. In the meantime, I have neutralized the content. 66.183.217.31 23:14, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
It is a highly informational article that has several sources and provides new and important information for readers. To say that it is for 'Self Validation' is 'silly and pointless'. 72.136.209.73 21:58, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Many people refer to the region as Detroit-Windsor or Windsor-Detroit. It is not self serving... Like it or not but what occurs economically in Metro Detroit has much more impact on the Windsor region that what occurs in places such as Toronto. 68.145.115.145 04:06, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
The article currently states: "The Windsor-Detroit region as a whole is not officially recognized as a single metropolitan area by either the Canadian or American governments." ... perhaps for this to be a valid article, someone should state what government (municipal, state, provincial or federal) DOES recognize "Windsor-Detroit" as a single metropolitan area? As far as I know there is no such recognition anywhere. The "Windsor-Detroit region" is not officially a region at all. If there was some validity to the claim, then the article should link to an official document that defines the "region". If no such document or source cannot be found, then the article should be deleted. --24.57.10.83 03:14, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- To the best of my knowledge, the Windsor area is included in most population figures for the Metro Detroit area. Can someone confirm this?
- The official definition of Metro Detroit does not include anything outside the country. Population figures do not include Windsor. There is, of course, an urban expanse that encompasses both Metro Detroit and Metro Windsor. I'm not sure what this article is trying to do, however, as there is sufficient info on each Metro area under the respective headings (Metro Detroit and Windsor, Canada). Each of these articles points sufficiently to the unique relationship these two international cities share. Mariokempes 21:07, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Some informal references may include Windsor when citing the population of "Metro Detroit", but the official United States census data, the only figure Wikipedia can cite under our verifiability rules, does not. Bearcat 06:52, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
The main reason this exists, to be honest, is because people kept trying to inappropriately add Windsor information to Metro Detroit. Bearcat 06:44, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Validity of article
I think this article lacked some obvious support, like the increasing governmental links and partnerships, which I tried to add. Not only do I think the article is valid (see discussion above), I think it could and should be expanded, there are many cultural ties between the regions as well as increasing economic ties. This article is really the only place possible to include these topics- shared water resources, the transportation links and issues, and border security. These topics can be mentioned in the seperate city articles but need a place where they won't get lost in the larger material. If the Regional Commerce boards in Michigan invite Windsor's mayor to their big annual conference, one that is broadcast on WJR, I think the article is on safe ground, even if some Americans don;t like to be reminded about their little sister. Moreover, I think more could be added as in cultural similiarities on many fronts. I tried to start a little bit in that direction with the photos of the Vietnam War memorial and the similiar structures in both cities. There could be more added about individuals like Hiram Walker too. --Mikerussell 20:21, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Should be Detroit-Windsor
True, the UN recognizes urban agglomerations without respect to international boundaries, and in reality if you viewed the area from space, it would look the same. However, where are the articles for El Paso-Ciudad Juarez? San Diego-Tijuana? Reynosa-McAllen? Laredo-Nuevo Laredo? And, might I just say that since Detroit has 5.4 million and Windsor 600,000, shouldn't Detroit get the first billing?68.211.77.10 11:23, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, San Diego-Tijuana and Laredo-Nuevo Laredo do have articles. On the US-Canadian border, there's the Buffalo Niagara Region, although that article is just a stub right now. Eco84 | Talk 06:00, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- Interesting, isn't it, that the above post mentions San Diego-Tijuana, Laredo-Nuevo Laredo, and Buffalo-Niagara as comparable articles to Windsor-Detroit, but all examples mentioned place the name of the larger metropolitan area at the start of the combined area name. The Detroit Metro area (in the U.S) is about 4 million people; the Windsor Metro area is about 300,000. Windsor-Detroit, not Detroit-Windsor...if this isn't proof that the article is just a puff-piece to inflate the ego of Windsor, then what it?--69.14.183.129 (talk) 22:30, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] This article needs to be removed
It's obvious that this article was created by Windsor residents, for Windsor residents to make themselves feel part of The Detroit metropolitan area. People in Detroit couldn't care less about Windsor, or Canada for that matter. Windsor residents seem obsessed with Detroit. Canada is the useless country to the north, America is the superpower to the south and that makes a lot of Canadians jealous. This article insults citizens of Detroit. It needs to be removed.
Detroit has nothing to do with Windsor and wants nothing to do with that insignificant Canadian town. End of story.
[edit] World's largest?
"It is the world's largest international metropolitan area." - isn't Kinshasa/Brazzaville larger, for instance? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.225.68.24 (talk) 09:15, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
