William Taylor (cricketer)

William Taylor (April 14, 1885 — August 17, 1976) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler who played for Derbyshire.

Taylor made his Derbyshire debut during the 1905 season, in an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Nottinghamshire. However, Taylor would not make another County Championship appearance for five years, his sole first-class appearance during this time coming during a West Indian tour of England in 1906.

Taylor was recalled during the 1910 season, playing two games, in which he was able to keep up his consistency between Test cricketer Arnold Warren and pre-war Derbyshire representative Frederick Bracey. However, Derbyshire finished second-bottom of the 1910 County Championship and Taylor did not play another first-class match.

Taylor was born in Wirksworth and died in Breadsall at the age of 91. His brother, Francis, five years his junior, also played first-class cricket for Derbyshire.
