William Self (archaeologist)

William Douglas Self (1951- ) is an American archaeologist.

William Self studied Anthropology at UCLA under Clement Meighan, and at University of Nevada, Reno. He has been a member of the Registry of Professional Archaeologists since 1980. Since 1988 he has served as President of WSA, Inc, a full-service cultural resource management consulting firm in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tucson, Arizona, and Austin, Texas. Mr. Self is currently serving on the Board of the American Cultural Resources Association.

Prior to his career as an archaeologist, Mr. Self studied guitar under Slim Edwards, along with Larry Carlton, and subsequently performed as a blues guitarist in several Los Angeles-based bands in the late 1960s (The Cavaliers; Slow Loris, and the Chuy Podgriguez Blues Band with Tadg Galleran), opening for Albert King. He subsequently played bluegrass mandolin from 1976-1980 in the Reno-based Buzzard's Roost with Joe Craven, performing locally, as well as at the Strawberry Bluegrass Festival.
