[edit] Career
Cole started as an intern to State Senator George W. Della, Jr. when he was 19 and then served as a legislative aide to former State Senator Walter Baker for 2 sessions (1995 and 1996). From there, he served as special assistant to U.S. Representative Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07) from 1996-2003.
While working for Cummings, Cole was elected to the Democratic State Central Committee in District 47A at the age of 25. He was subsequently elected by that group to serve as its Sergeant of Arms. Months later, Cole was selected, over 12 other candidates, by the Baltimore City Central Committee to fill the seat vacated by Del. Timothy Murphy when Murphy was elevated to District Court bench. Governor Parris N. Glendening approved the selection and appointed Cole to the Maryland House of Delegates in February 1999.
By 2002, Baltimore City lost an entire legislative district, the 47th, where Bill Cole was a delegate. He was redistricted into the 46th district with three long-time incumbents, he finished fourth in that year's primary and lost his chance to return to the Maryland House.[2]
Cole was elected to City Council in 2007, where he is Vice-chair of the Taxation, Finance, & Economic Development Committee, chairman of the Community Development Subcommittee, member of the Land Use & Transportation committee, and member of the Education committee.
He is an associate vice president and adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore.[3][4]

Cole, his wife, Michelle and their three children live in the Otterbein neighborhood where he served as president of the community association from 2003-2007. Both of their school-age children attend Baltimore City Public Schools. [5]
