Major William Evander Penn (1832–1895) was a Texan Baptist evangelist and well known minister who travelled all over Texas and even in Europe. His visit of castles in Europe inspired him to build a castle of his own in 1888. Marilla, his wife, and he stayed in the castle some 15 years. "Penn castle" was featured on the HGTV show "If Walls Could Talk".
