William Empson (lawyer)

William Empson (1791–1852) was a barrister educated at Winchester, and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was Professor of general polity and the laws of England at the East India Company College 1824–52. He contributed regularly to the Edinburgh Review (1823-49) and was for some years its editor (1847–52).

On 27 June 1838, he married Charlotte Jeffrey (b.1814), daughter of Francis Lord Jeffrey[1].
