Wilfrid Van Wyck

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilfrid Van Wyck (1905? — 13 October 1983, Woking,[1] Surrey) was a British classical music artists manager through his agency, Wilfrid Van Wyck Ltd, based in London. He was the second president of the European Association of Artist Managers.[2]

Van Wyck was the concert agent for cellists Aldo Parisot and János Starker;[3] pianists Guirne Creith,[4] Janina Fialkowska,[5] Artur Rubinstein,[5][6] and Ken Sasaki;[7] soprano Victoria de los Angeles,[8] the Fine Arts Quartet,[9] the Utah Symphony Orchestra, then conducted by Maurice Abravanel,[10] and many other artists and ensembles.

Wilfrid Van Wyck was also a partner in Rimington Van Wyck Ltd,[11] a London record store[12] and publisher[13] at 42-43 Cranbourn Street,[14] Leicester Square, London. He retired in 1970.[8] His agency was purchased by artist manager Wilfred Stiff,[15][16] who later became a director of Ibbs and Tillett.

Annabelle Whitestone, who worked for Van Wyck in the late 1960s,[6] described him as a “difficult man” who was “very possessive about his artists.”
