From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you enjoy editing here; there is a lot of useful information for new editors here.

However, please do not re-add the unsourced information regarding the Jamstykk controller to the lead of [[Guitar Hero (series)]. The lead section is supposed to summarize the content of the article; as there is no information on the Jamstykk in the article, it should not be mentioned in the lead. In addition, the way you are re-adding it to the lead is deleting an important navigational template that a vandal had removed just before you edited the article. If you can provide reliable sources as defined by Wikipedia for information on the Jamstykk, it would be appropriate to include the information, with appropriate citations, on the section of the article about controllers, rather than the lead. I'm also going to inform you that Wikipedia has a "three-revert rule" that restricts editors to making the same edit no more than three times per day, to prevent edit wars that disrupt the encyclopedia; this isn't meant as a threat, I just want to let you know about it if you didn't know it was there.

Again, welcome to Wikipedia, and I hope you'll enjoy working here! Rdfox 76 (talk) 21:38, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] OK, academic integrity in editing the posts..

Seems Mr RdFox76 is currently working on the Guitar Hero article and I've crossed the line. While being well versed in the English language, my intentions were good, just without citation. I am the creator of the Jamstykk peripheral, what other citation would I need?

I will make sure as to place my controller details in the proper place next time. It was a first post...watch the toes!Williamross7 (talk) 06:36, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry if my comments came off as blunt; my people skills aren't the best in the world (Asperger's symptom). I meant to try and welcome you while giving a bit of gentle advice to help avoid possible conflict in the future--one of the biggest rules around here for established editors is not to "bite" new editors while helping them learn WP standards.
I do find the Jamstykk to be a very interesting idea, and feel that it's worthy of mention, but I'm also going to give you a little heads-up about Wikipedia's policy regarding conflicts of interest; while I don't think that there's any intended CoI here, it's possible that an editor who's got problems with following another of WP's main policies ("Assume Good Faith") might call you out on it. Summarized, the policy (which can be read behind the link) is that, on subjects where an editor has a vested interest, the editor needs to be extra-careful to make sure that all statements have outside sources. While I don't doubt the accuracy of your information, anything beyond the basic description of the peripheral would probably require a citation of an independent source for inclusion--say, referring to a review of the peripheral by a gaming website or magazine, or publicly-available sales figures.
Again, I'm not trying to step on your toes or make things unpleasant for you, I'm just trying to help you learn the policies here so that you don't end up accidentally running afoul of them. Hope this helps you--I see a lot of potential for a really good editor here, and would love to see you become a Wiki regular! Rdfox 76 (talk) 13:38, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
