The original idea was to make the film a comedy, starring Jack Black. The idea was dropped due to poor fan reaction on the Internet.[1] As such, the studio changed the direction of Green Lantern to be taken more seriously, approaching Zack Snyder to direct, but he turned down the offer due to his commitment on Watchmen.[2]
Actor-writer Corey Reynolds, a comic book fan and personal fan of the John Stewart character, pitched an idea for a trilogy, with him starring as John Stewart and assisting as co-writer. Hal Jordan, The Green Lantern Corps. and the Justice League would be introduced in possible sequel. Reynolds wished for Bryan Singer as director.[3]
Reynolds finished the script in June 2007, receiving positive feedback from Warner Brothers, and Hoped for a 2010 release. It’s three films, and the first one is titled Green Lantern: Birth of a Hero.[4]

- In October 2007, it was reported that director Greg Berlanti was signed on to co-write and direct a Green Lantern feature film, featuring Hal Jordan as the main character. The other writers working on the screenplay include Michael Green (who had done work on Heroes for television and Batman Confidential for comics) and Marc Guggenheim (known for his comic work on The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive and Wolverine). The film is currently scheduled for release in 2010, but the film has been in initial development for over a year.
