[edit] Resignation from the UK House of Commons
I was wondering about this. One cannot unilaterally resign from this august chamber. One has to apply for appoinment to either the Chiltern Hundreds or as Steward of the Manor of Northstead, but he’s not listed in either of those places. His ADB entry says “In 1959 he announced his retirement for reasons of health”. There was a UK general election in 1959, so it seems that he simply chose to bow out and not contest the election, i.e. he retired. -- JackofOz (talk) 20:19, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
