[edit] Predictable Outcry

"There was a predictable outcry from the Liberal opposition and the conservative press" refers to Chifley's appointment of McKell, a Labor mate, as G-G. I think "predictable" is POV, and also a bit meaningless. It's really saying that the outcry would have been predicted by some unnamed persons if they had got wind of the proposal before it was publicly announced, or if it were presented to them as a hypothetical possibility. But since neither of those things ever happened - or, if they did, we have no knowledge of them - what we're left with is "We could have predicted that would happen", or just a case of being wise after the event. It adds no value, so out it goes.

By the way, this is such a minor edit that I predict there will be no outcry over it. JackofOz 08:38, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
