Please note: At the time that Ide arrived in Sacramento, there was no such entity as "Sutter's Fort." There was a man named John Augustus Sutter who owned some buildings on some high ground in what is now midtown Sacramento, but it was not called "Sutter's Fort." It was just the place where Sutter lived, and a gathering place for people who who had just arrived in Sacramento hoping to buy supplies and meet people. It was a safe haven for many (including the Donner party) who arrived in Sacramento with less than they started out with. It was Captain Sutter's place, but it was not called Sutter's Fort yet.
