[edit] Bias
There is some minor bias in this article. It needs more NPOV. 138.88.6.132 16:40, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Modems
Wildblue now has newer, better looking modems. You should update the pictures.
[edit] Multiple signals
How does the receiver on the satellite manage to listen to millions of different modems at the same time? -Rolypolyman 03:01, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Speeds
Advertised speeds are "UP TO" the service level you pay for. If you have questions about speed, talk to the technical support people before you talk to the sales people. This will give you a more realistic service expectation.
[edit] Latency
The signal must go from your location, into space, and then back to earth before being on "the internet". That delay is about 2 seconds. This is why Satellite Internet is not generally useful for VoIP or online gaming.
[edit] Packet Priority
In 2006, WB prioritized http packets. If your data was not Port 80, it was open to being dropped when traffic levels were high. With overcrowding on some sections of the network, it was common for applications other than web to simply stop working for 6 hours every day.
[edit] Support
Tier 1 consists of the following script
- Please unplug your modem and reboot the computer. You can plug the modem back in when the computer starts the reboot process
- What virus software do you have loaded?
- When was the last virus scan run? (if for some reason rebooting didn't fix the problem, next step)
- A "Service Call" will have to be issued, that will be $74.95, do you approve the charge?
[edit] costumer satisfaction
It is my personal experience that many customers are displeased because of the poor service of wildblue. If this is the case, and I have some reason to think it might be, I think that is should be stated that there is a belief that wildblue offers some poor services, all claims should have citational proof however.
The following sites show some overwhelming customer dissatisfaction.
http://www.rateitall.com/i-837519-wildblue.aspx http://www.epinions.com/msg/show_~threads/cat_id_~9/id_~4917/forum_id_~172
On these sites the count of bad ratings to good is comparitively 2 to 1. overall, it should be considered saying they have mixed to bad costumer service rep.
