[edit] A source that could be used: Jerry Beck's Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons!
I found a book in the bookstore called Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons! by Jerry Beck. I'm not going to buy it and join the project, but I will ask the other members to get the book so that they can add real world information about various fictional characters.
This makes the creation of separate articles for *many* fictional characters feasible. Having information about the development of the character will make the articles satisfy Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) WhisperToMe (talk) 20:37, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Centralized TV Episode Discussion
Over the past months, TV episodes have been redirected by (to name a couple) TTN, Eusebeus and others. No centralized discussion has taken place, so I'm asking everyone who has been involved in this issue to voice their opinions here in this centralized spot, be they pro or anti. Discussion is here [1]. Even if you have not, other opinions are needed because this issue is affecting all TV episodes in Wikipedia. --Maniwar (talk) 23:18, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Video game articles
I don't think that each individual SB video game is notable on its own. What do you think of merging them into a single List of SpongeBob SquarePants video games? --CrazyLegsKC 19:04, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Not sure why you think that, the vast majority of them pass notability with ease. There are a couple of obscure PC titles which nobody reviewed but the console ones are no less notable than the next game. Could you give some examples of SB games that you don't think are notable? Someoneanother 02:06, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- According to WP:N, a subject is considered notable only when it has received substantial coverage in reliable secondary sources independent of the subject itself. Most of the video game articles cite no sources or don't cite enough that could be considered "substantial." Also, according to WP:PLOT, articles about published works need to cover the work's development and reception, not just summarize its plot. Only about three of the articles have any of this information, and in most of them the coverage of that information is very brief. By the looks of the articles as they are now, only Atlantis SquarePantis and Creature from the Krusty Krab appear to possibly pass these guidelines. --CrazyLegsKC 12:03, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- They have received substantial coverage, it's just not cited. If every game was fed through Game Rankings or Metacritic then a slew of sources would turn up. It's the same-old same-old, everyone's happy to sling together articles but substantially fewer want to fine-tune them and nobody wants to reference what's there. If this project is actually active enough a list of which games need what could be put together to be worked on, or alternatively some reference tags could be put in place. [edit] Portal in disuse, roll-call/update member list?
Is the portal actually needed? Several of its links are red and it hasn't been updated for six months, it's just another time sink. Could I suggest some kind of roll-call too? Checking a few of the contribution histories shows that some of these editors haven't signed in since 2006. If it's not kept up to date it gives no indication of who could be contacted about SB articles. Someoneanother 14:46, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Guidelines
[edit] WP:FICT has been revised
WP:FICT, the notability guideline for elements within a work of fiction (characters, places, elements, etc) has a new proposal/revision that is now live [2] Everyone is encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page. Ned Scott 22:11, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Notability (serial works)
There is a proposal to split WP:EPISODE into a more general notability guideline, Wikipedia:Notability (serial works), and make the rest of WP:EPISODE just a MOS guideline. Please join in at WT:EPISODE#Proposed split of EPISODE and/or Wikipedia talk:Notability (serial works). -- Ned Scott 22:11, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Various Issues
Okay, over the past year there have been various issues and situations regarding the SpongeBob articles. I will sum it up in this table:
| Situation | Result |
|---|---|
| Episode Articles | Redirected to episode list |
| Long Episode List | Split by season |
| Setting/Places information | All have been transwikied; Only Bikini Bottom remains |
| Character articles | Redirected to main list except SpongeBob. |
| Long character list | Transwikied and trimmed down on Wikipedia. |
- Basically, these have occurred due to, mainly, lack of sources besides the show. Since then, SpongeBob's article has more sources, as well as video game articles and the main episode list. In ragards to the episode information, if we can find plenty of reception and production details for the episodes, we can enrich the season articles to a point where we can split them by individual episode where it meets the proper guidelines. It is quite a big goal, and in the long run can be made possible. -AMK152(Talk • Contributions • Send message) 02:39, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
