Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Roads in Maryland/Editing guide

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The numerous i-95/I-97 MD state-name shields is older inventory. Becareful, just because the shelds is post in 2006 doesn't mean it is post in 2006. This only depend on when the maints buy it. Some shields post in 2006 can be as old as 1997. Even Georgia and Texas has more state-name specific interstate shields than MD do though they utilize both types of shields.--Freewayguy (talk) 23:27, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

When someone is driving down the road do they really care when the sign was made? The point is that state-name shields can be seen in Maryland, so therefore they should appear in articles. Also, in the case of Interstate 95 all the caption says is that it is an older-style shield, it doesn't say anything about it still being used.-Jeff (talk) 04:17, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
When you see new shields is only when they post them, doesn't tell you "The shields is here today and it is made today". Some shields for example made in 2006 can be as old as 1996. And I don't understand why you guy have such a strong distrust on interstate-guide.--Freewayguy (talk) 19:53, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
I realize that shields do not get constantly replaced with new ones, that would obviously be impractical. I also realize that state-name shields are an older style in Maryland (i.e. they are no longer produced). I've acknowledged this countless times. I'm not sure what information you are getting from interstate-guide, but if it's that new state-name shields are no longer produced by the state of Maryland, then like I said, I acknowledge that. If interstate-guide is suggesting that there are no longer any state-name shields posted at all in Maryland, I can easily disprove that as I live in Maryland and have seen state-name shields along I-97 myself. Either way, I really don't see any point in banning older style shields as long as they are not used in the infobox, etc.-Jeff (talk) 02:04, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] infobox road vs. infobox Maryland highway and other questions

I'm curious what the reasoning for a separate infobox for a single state is? Infobox road handles other properties the MD template doesn't (county and city lists in box) that would simplify the prose. Also infobox road will hold the commons category stuff putting it much higher up in the article. I'm only curious since other roadgeek editors on WP would find it easier to help out editing articles outside of their own states if MD used the same infobox as the other states and countries do.
