This hierarchy fails because it implies that Eastern philosophy is silent on the main philosophical issues - Metaphysics, ethics, and so on. See Category talk:Philosophy for an alternative. Banno 21:55, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

Logic is not normally considered to be a branch of Philosophy of Logic (see Philosophy of Logic. So I have made Logic a branch of Philosophy itself, and created some sub categories within it. I have left Philosophy of Logic as and where it is, but its sub-heading will have to be pruned of those sub-headings which better fall under Logic. A problem occurs to me as I write this. Why is Logic considered part of Philosophy while Physics is not? The answer is surely historic - it is there for the same reason that Physics and Psychology were branches of Philosophy when they were then called Natural Philosophy and Mental Philosophy. And Social Philosophy became Sociology. Perhaps our Philsophy Wikiproject should show how these modern disciplines grew out of Philosophy? Banno is surely right in his criticism, and it would be surely wrong to imply that only in "The West" are we interested in Logic, Ethics, Epistemology etc. It would be great if ideas from elsewhere were put alongside Western views on the same subject. I have tentatively put a link to Indian Logic under History of Logic, not meaning to imply thereby that there are no modern Indian Logicians. --Philogo 00:39, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
