Project directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 16:12, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Hello, I believe that we must move the Phoenician importance level to highly important. Also we must give facts and show pictures of places in the North, South, East and West Lebanon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.209.134.197 (talk) 07:56, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Beirut Article
Hi. I was just glossing over the Beirut article...it is in desperate need of sources. There are several POV statements that I'm about to fix...I thought I would mention it here. I'm going to go at it a little at a time...please feel free to provide thoughts/input/etc. --Xtcrider 05:15, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- I've only taken a look at that article, but you're probably right. You should post your comment on the aricle's talk page though. Be Bold! LestatdeLioncourt talk 07:18, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Lebanese livre
I've been talking with Dove1950 about the Lebanese livre article, and why the main article is named Lebanese livre instead of Lebanese lira or Lebanese pound. We came to the general conclusion that, following the Numismatics style guidelines, the article and currency should be referred to as the Lebanese lira. As such, I'm going to start moving the article and updating references to it. If you see inconsistencies in usage between livre, lira, and pound please update them accordingly. Thanks. George Saliba 23:57, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hi George, my time does not allow me to probe all the details on this issue, but let me throw in my 2 cents for whatever it is worth. Using Lebanese Lira (LL) is certainly more accurate than Lebanese Livre. Livre is a French word meaning Lira from "Livre Libanaise". While Lebanese Pound is the more accurate description of Lebanese Lira in English and it is widely used when referring to the Lebanese currency in English, the use of Lebanese Lira is far more appropriate in Wikipedia to identify the unique use of Lira in Lebanon. Hope you found this useful. Lcnj 06:15, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Lcnj. Yup, I agree. I don't have any personal preference between lira and pound (one is the native tongue name, the other is the official name), but Dove19150 preferred lira to pound, and we agreed that they were both more appropriate than the French livre, so I moved the article to Lebanese lira. Thanks for your feedback regarding this though, as it makes me more confident that we made the correct decision. — George Saliba [talk] 06:30, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Request for Comment
Hello.
I'm trying to assist two of your members reach a consensus over who should and should not be in the article List of Lebanese people and also to the extent information about individuals should be expanded on in the list. As you guys are clearly among the most informed on the subject, I wonder if you would mind commenting. It would help if you could keep your comments on the topic of content, and not behaviour of the individuals, as personal conflict is already heavily influencing the dispute (as you can see from the statements). If we can resolve the content dispute, the locus of the conflict will be solved too without resorting to further administrative action. Thanks! Rockpocket 23:54, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- Fine, I'll see what I can do. LestatdeLioncourt talk 13:09, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Adding town/village infobox.
I've created an infobox for towns and villages in Lebanon. I've begun adding it to some town/villages, but if you see some articles that it would help please add it. You can see what it looks like here as an example. The reason I didn't use any of the generic ones is that they're very complicated and can't do some things we might want, like hiding the population or area in square meters, as those numbers might be harder to come by in small towns of villages in Lebanon. Also if there are any bugs or features please let me know. I'm going to continue trying to improve on the template in my free time. Thanks. — George Saliba [talk] 01:26, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- Wonderful work George. Could you please do me the favor of adding the {{WikiProject Lebanon}} template to the pages you visit and then add them to the Scope section? Thanks. LestatdeLioncourt talk 13:30, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Absolutely. It will take me a little while probably, as I'm trying to look up the governorate and district for towns as I come across them, while maintaining the template, but I can definately add them to the project as I go through them. Is the scope of the project anything related to Lebanon then? I just want to be sure, because there's a lot of articles I can add if so. Thanks. — George Saliba [talk] 19:40, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Hey Lestat, I'm considering adding {{WikiProject Lebanon}} to the city template itself, so it will automatically show on any and all articles that use it (and whoever adds the city template, probably myself, should subsequently add the article to the scope section). What are your thoughts on this idea? I'm also thinking of adding the cities and villages in Lebanon category tag to the city template, so any place it is added will also automatically be added to the category.
-
- Any idea why few of the current articles listed under scope, including the main Lebanon article itself, have the {{WikiProject Lebanon}} template? Should I be adding it to the articles I see without it? Cheers. — George Saliba [talk] 21:53, 5 December 2006 (UTC)]
-
-
-
- The scope of the article is indeed anything related to Lebanon.
- Adding the {{WikiProject Lebanon}} template to your city template will cause the {{WikiProject Lebanon}} to appear on the main article page. The template, however, is meant to to be added to the article talk page (sorry if I was unclear). But I think you should definately add the category to your template. I think I should do the same with {{WikiProject Lebanon}} so that all pages with that name are added to a WikiProject Lebanon category. This will save us the trouble of manually adding articles to the scope section, which would then merely list the article under the category.
- I suppose the previous point probably answered your last question.
- Good luck with your work~ LestatdeLioncourt talk 13:25, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, thanks for the clarification. I've changed the template to automatically add the articles to the list of cities and villages in Lebanon, and I'll go back through the ones I've done and add the {{WikiProject Lebanon}} tag to their talk pages, hopefully later today. Cheers. — George Saliba [talk] 21:45, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

- On second thought, I want to be sure I understand what you're planning to do before I start. Are you planning to make {{WikiProject Lebanon}} a template for main article pages instead of talk pages, or will the template parse the name of the talk page and figure out the main article page based on that? It probably doesn't make sense to have the talk pages in the category, but it makes perfect sense to have the main articles in it (just not sure which way you're going to implement this - changing the template or having the template figure out the associated article). Thanks. — George Saliba [talk] 02:24, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, the template {{WikiProject Lebanon}} is to be transcluded in talk pages only. The talk pages themselves are added into the category. This seems to be the common practice (see this and this). LestatdeLioncourt talk 20:27, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

- Sounds good. Now that I've categorized the Scope section, it should be easier to add the towns to it as I go through them. Cheers. — George Saliba [talk] 20:37, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I've added a map and mapping locator to the template. Given coordinate values mapx and mapy it will draw a map of Lebanon and show the location of the town/village. Please let me know if anyone notices any inaccuracies. — George Saliba [talk] 06:22, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Image:BoNM - Lebanon.png
Hi,
I saw many hard-working editors at the Lebanon article so I made Image:BoNM - Lebanon.png. Please let me know if:
- It's OK to use the national seal in something as trivial as a barnstar (not disrespectful, inappropriate, etc.).
- I got the legal mumbo-jumbo right.
--Ling.Nut 00:31, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I'm not 100% sure on either account, but it looks great to me (both the legalese and the image), and I don't think it would be interpretted as disrespectful at all. Nice work Ling! — George Saliba [talk] 10:35, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Question on adding WikiProject Lebanon template
I just noticed that the existing Lebanon category is quite extensive with pretty deep sub-categorization. What should the relation between this and the WikiProject Lebanon template be? Does our template go on all the talk pages and the Lebanon category (or sub-categories) on all the main articles? Is there any way to tie the two together so that when we add one the other also shows up? — George Saliba [talk] 10:40, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- You can add the WikiProject Lebanon articles category into the Lebanon category. But I don't really see the point why you should do that. I think the WikiProject Lebanon articles category is useful in at least determing which articles have been added to the project scope and which have not, and the Lebanon category can be used as a checklist. —LestatdeLioncourt 14:14, 19 December 2006 (UTC)~
Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 20:48, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Getting Lebanon to FA status
I was glad that a project aimed at improving Lebanon-related articles is created. But I see that there's not yet a real collaboration project between members of the wikiproject in order to improve a specific article. Would you think as a first one getting Lebanon to FA status? CG 10:50, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- It's been the implicit goal of setting up this project. The project is still in its early infancy and we're only beginning to organize our efforts. Please feel free to contribute in any way you like. —LestatdeLioncourt 19:11, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Rating the article
Hi/Salam. Do we rate the articles of this wikiproject like this:Wikipedia:WikiProject Holidays/Assessment?--Sa.vakilian 12:53, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- We already have an assessment page. Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Lebanon/Assessment. —LestatdeLioncourt 13:21, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- On a related note, I would appreciate it if someone could come along and rate Selim Tadmoury. I have created the article, and would also like additional input from this WikiProject.--Ed ¿Cómo estás? 16:16, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Joyce Gemayel
Hello. I created a Joyce Gemayel stub. I know nothing about Mrs Gemayel, and care even less whether she is notable or not. However, I'm tired of the disputes about notability at List of Lebanese people and the best was to establish notability is to create an article and see if it survives, instead of debating notability in a list. If anyone could improve the stub, please do so. Or is she isn't deemed notable enough in your opinion, please list at WP:AfD and we can let the community decide. Thanks. Rockpocket 10:20, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Further to this, another editor queried her notability, so I have a made a procedural listing to delete this article at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Joyce Gemayel - If you have an opinion, please have your say there. Rockpocket 21:39, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Bilateral relations discussion
I would like to invite you all to participate in a discussion at this thread regarding bilateral relations between two countries. All articles related to foreign relations between countries are now under the scope of WikiProject Foreign relations, a newly created project. We hope that the discussion will result in a more clean and organized way of explaining such relationships. Thank you. Ed ¿Cómo estás? 18:16, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
Jounieh translation request required
Hello. I need members of the WikiProject Lebanon to help translate the article of Jounieh from Arabic to English. It has been received no attention for the past two months now, and I believe that the Arabic paragraphs could make the article far more informative than it used to be. Thanks. - Omar 180 20:35, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
Lebanese Resistance
I have looked at articles about the lebanese resistance and they seem really biased, and false. Please add a section where we can work on that topic. Much of the world wouldn't know what Lebanon is without the resistance movement's publicity. Ahmadhusseini 05:57, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sure any suggestions for improvement will be welcomed at the talk pages of these articles. —LestatdeLioncourt 12:28, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

2007 North Lebanon conflict
I have expanded the article, adding the aid section and updating from the initial ceasefire. (I think I messed up the ref list though. ;) Just stopping by and saying that. --Pupster21 Talk To Me 19:25, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
New userpage template
I created this a while ago, but forgot to tell anyone. I've created a new userpage template to indicate that you are a member of WikiProject Lebanon, for those that don't want to use the userbox one for whatever reason (too many userboxes, userboxphobia, minimalism, etc.). You can see it in action on my userpage (note the little flag in the upper right hand corner), and the way to include it is to use {{User WikiProject Lebanon small}} on your userpage. Again, this is only for userpages, not for articles. Enjoy. — George [talk] 08:03, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

women right's
Hi,
I'd like to know how interrested you are in including some information about women rights in lebanon.
My current point of concern is about a high number of women who have to literally fight to get their kids back or just to know where they are ...
Here is an example : http://www.intifada-des-perles.org/index_017.htm
Let me know if you are interrested by more information ... Regards Jean-marie berger 14:29, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Arabianism vs non-Arabicness
This section in the Lebanon article seems to be hovering on the edge of a biased viewpoint. It was added in this edit by 77.42.129.120 (talk) and I can see that it does highlight an important so I am loathe to remove it entirely but I feel it could do with someone more knowledgeable editing it. possibly unfree image
I put up a Lebanon-related image (Image:Samir_Geagea_official_picture.jpg) at WP:PUI because I doubt that it is really GFDL-licensed, but I can't read Arabic so the source site is useless to me. Steps for making Beirut a Featured Articke
Hello everyone. I just had a word with one of our moderators, tariqabjotu, and he stated that the lists under "Districts & Neighborhoods", "Colleges and universities", "Public Spaces", and "Famous Births" need to be replaced with prose or removed altogether. Also, he had a point pointing to other FA cities like Jerusalem, New York City, Mumbai, and others found under Wikipedia:Featured articles#Geography and places. We should also have an well-sourced article made up almost entirely of prose. (I will also address the members at WikiProject Lebanon directly at the WikiProject talk page as well.) - Omar 180 18:35, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
