Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dinotopia

[edit] Anybody home?
I guess it’s up to me to kick off discussion: First of all, is anyone still interested in this project? If so I’ll organize some things and write up outlines/drafts that people can fill in. I moved it to WPspace, which I hope was not too presumptuous, because it felt silly having articles tagged with a link to a user subpage. I know this WikiProject was still considered “proposed” before it became inactive, but if it was only a proposal, pages should not have been tagged. With the release of JtC, I have been wanting to write about Dinotopia a bit. About the stated goals, though.... particularly “Expand wikipedia's slim coverage of Dinotopia to at least as much as some other fiction series, such as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.” - I think that is unreasonable. While only a fool would argue that the series is not significant, particularly given the sheer diversity of media involved, it does not have nearly the international recognition, newsmedia coverage, or sales of those two examples. What I am getting at is, while pages like “Characters of Dinotopia” are suitable, individual pages on the Denisons, for example, would be overkill - particularly given that the main series books are not text-heavy. Code of Dinotopia is another prime example - the topic is much too small and trivial to support a page. It could, however, be the basis for a more general page on the Culture of Dinotopia. I am on the fence about Skybax, since it seems to be adequately written and contain a fair bit of info - but if it is kept something has to be done about the in-universe tone of the article. Yes, in-universe perspective is to be expected in a “Story” section, but that becomes a problem when said section dominates the article.--WikidSmaht (talk) 15:06, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
