[edit] User:Aomen and {{WPCHINA}} tagging
Hi there
I've noticed Aomen (talk · contribs) mass-tagging many articles with the most tenuous links with China (Chinese culture, history, etc.). He's received numerous complaints already. Is he a member of your wikiproject? Do his actions have your support? I'm just wondering, because it seems strange that you guys want to take care of all these (IMHO non-China-related) articles he has tagged. If his actions are not supported by your wikiproject, I'm taking his actions to be vandalism. --Rifleman 82 (talk) 05:33, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

- I usually add herbs used in TCM to WPCHINA, as well as animals that are Chinese in origin; I'm guessing this is what the editor is doing? Badagnani (talk) 05:54, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- For example, Rafetus swinhoei really is a Chinese animal. Badagnani (talk) 05:54, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

- I do accept that many of the article he adds {{WPCHINA}} to do have a link (however tenuous) to China. I just wanted to check if the articles he has added is in the scope of your project, because he *has* received numerous complaints; he does not reply to any of them; this appears to be a single-purpose account (solely for tagging articles).--Rifleman 82 (talk) 06:05, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- How strange. These are very obscure species and I don't know most of them, but I guess at least some of them are of relevance to WPCHINA. It would be much better if the editor would discuss. Badagnani (talk) 06:12, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
-
- I definitely agree. Is he part of your wikiproject? If he is, maybe you can talk to him, because he does not respond to anybody else's complaints.
-
- I personally suspect this is an unapproved bot account considering (1) his profligate edits, seemingly without judgment, (2) the speed of his edits, and (3) his failure to respond to *any* comments at his talk page. --Rifleman 82 (talk) 06:26, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- How interesting. I think you should get to the bottom of it. S/he is not listed among our participants, although I've noted his/her edits in the past. Aomen is the Chinese name for Macau. Badagnani (talk) 06:29, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
-
- Thanks for the translation; that part I already figured out, being a native speaker. I'll leave a final request to respond to the many comments at his talk page. If he doesn't respond, I'll block the account as an unapproved bot account. --Rifleman 82 (talk) 06:42, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

-
- I've been following Aomen for a while too. The nature and speed of his edits make me suspect a bot account as well. I guess we'll have to block him, but I must say, he has gotten a lot of articles tagged for WPCHINA. (Although some of his tags are improper, he tags a lot of fitting articles as well)--Danaman5 (talk) 06:50, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

I think I was the only one who wasn't negative to this guy on his talk page Lol, and to be honest if I did what he is doing just tagging like that I would've become suicidal long ago.
My explanation is that he is tagging WPCHINA to those within a China-related category. So for example, from the above list:
- Actinidia laevissima is under Category:Flora of China
- Trimeresurus stejnegeri is under Category:Reptiles of China.
Actually, can anyone explain what should be tagged WPCHINA? Could also technically everything under Category:China be tagged. Because maybe this is what this guy is doing.
Also, another thought related to this idea is that I don't think it's a bot otherwise why not leave it on permanently and complete the job in a few days. Paul Gard (talk) 22:08, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- If that is indeed the case, then I think his contribs should be encouraged. Looking at his edits they seem pretty non-objectionable (IMHO tagging species endemic to China should be within our scope). Why don't we let him do his thing, and we can probably deal with most complaints that people might have on the few miscategorized pages, on a case by case basis. -- Миборовский (talk) 02:25, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Yangzhou dialect
Is there an article or section of an article that briefly describes the brand of dialect commonly used in Yangzhou? The reason I ask is because I came across a source that describes the method used in Yangzhou storytelling that relates to the article Zhou Tong (archer). --Ghostexorcist (talk) 19:43, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Update. I think I may have found what I was looking for. Here is the paragraph that I will be adding to the article. Please keep in mind that alot of the terminology, like "square mouth" is already defined in a previous paragraph. Tell me what you think ...
-
In her studies of Yangzhou storytelling, folkore researcher Vibeke Børdahl noted that a tale about Zhou and his student Wu Song used different forms of dialogue for both characters. Wu Song speaks in square mouth fashion and uses the standard mandarin of northern China, but without short rusheng sylables. Zhou also speaks in squaremouth, but uses the Yangzhou tone system of southern China and rusheng. Therefore, she believes “square mouth dialogue should at least be divided into two subcategories, namely the Wu Song variant—without rusheng, and the Zhou Tong variant—with rusheng.”
- It sounds a bit choppy. Maybe someone can help me smooth it out. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 19:58, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Old culture time changes
A new user named "Emoworld" changed the dates to a number of the ancient cultures. I went down his contribution list and reverted his changes. If this person really is making meaningful changes, I suggest someone from WPCHINA ask him where he is getting these new info. Some dates were changed by as much as 1000 years. [edit] Large-scale, undiscussed revisions regarding China's territory
Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Readin for a list of large-scale, undiscussed revisions related to China's territory and administration thereof. This needs examination. Badagnani (talk) 19:44, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Revert the Stub renaming
I'm going to reopen the renaming proposal as there is one unpopular, not well discussed one. Feel feel to discuss in this Matthew_hk tc 14:17, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
