Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Big Ten

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to the Big Ten WikiProject. The talk page will of course be used for any questions. If we use assessment and importance meters in the future and you're not sure what to rate something, list it here and I'll take care of it. If you're not sure whether something should be tagged or not, list it here as well. Anyway, have fun and just do whatver needs doig on the to-do list. --Wizardman 14:01, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Updates and Progress

Add anything you have made serious progress on here. This could be for future reference if this ever becomes big enough to make a barnstar for. Plus I can see if people are acualy contributing to this.--Wizardman 19:44, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Alright, I was busy the past couple weeks with something as important as this wikiproject, but I've been doing what I can. I love the progress on Wisconsin thus far. I'll look it over and see what needs cleanup/expansion, then you can submit if for FAC, possibly later this month.--Wizardman 18:49, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Nothing's really happened here at all, it seems. I need to get everyone workign on something, perhaps.--Wizardman 18:23, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tagging Update

100 {{Wikiproject Big Ten}} tags later... Most, if not all, stadiums are tagged; however, I did not tag Hockey-only stadiums or Hockey Teams, as the Big Ten does not include hockey. All marching bands, student sections, rivalries, football teams, mascots, and some fight songs are tagged. I have not tagged any coaches, players, or buildings/colleges yet. Lordmontu (talk)(contribs) 00:07, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

I tagged pretty much everything related to UIUC. A lot of it looks like it could be deleted or merged, but that's for another time. Once neary everything's tagged we can really have some fun. Plus, I'm wondering if we can include other branches of big ten schools. Some may be okay, but some are their own college, such as UIC. For now, I guess we'll stay away from them, but who knows in the future. --Wizardman 05:35, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Question on scope

Is it intended that this project focus on the schools on the big 10 merely with respect to their athletic programs, or is it the intent to focus on the 11 schools and their athletic programs together? The latter might encourage broader participation. This could be useful, even for a wider range of eyes on the athletics articles. If we want to go that way, then we shold make it clear on the project page. If it is to be the former (athletics-related only), then I suggest that getting the main university articles to FA status shold be removed from the goals as that would fall outside of the scope of the project. Johntex\talk 05:46, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

It'll be encompassing all aspects of the Big TEn Conference, so we are looking at the latter. All aspects of the 11 schools are being looked at in this WikiProject. I'll make a note of it. --Wizardman 05:51, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
OK Thanks for that. What about alumini and professors? Wikipedia:WikiProject University of Texas at Austin covers them as well. Will we do so here? Johntex\talk 06:23, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Professors you can tag, I'd rather not do alumni until later.--Wizardman 14:10, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Portal

Is there interest in creating and maintaining a portal, similar to Portal:University_of_Texas_at_Austin or Portal:College football? Johntex\talk 06:23, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

At this time there's probably no need for a portal. Perhaps in the future.--Wizardman 22:18, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] University of Wisconsin-Madison

I re-organized the UW-Madison article, following the University of Michigan and Michigan State University formats. I have listed many suggestions on the UW-Madison Talk Page for what I believe will help make it a FA. Please help fix the article, and add any more ideas. Lordmontu (talk)(contribs) 02:49, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

I created a UW-Madison template. Please check it over for accuracy, or add anything I forgot. Template:University of Wisconsin-Madison Lordmontu (talk)(contribs) 23:09, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Template looks pretty good, though you could certainly add other areas that don't have articles yet. That and you could probably take the Big Ten Conference part out, doesn't really fit with the template. As for UWM, I'd say either request a peer review or send it in to WP:GAC.--Wizardman 19:02, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Community Portal

I listed the Big Ten Conference as a new Wikiproject on the community portal. Just wanted to let everyone know. I'm assuming it was never listed before, but if i'm wrong, then "Oh, well". Lordmontu (talk)(contribs) 02:57, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Ah, never been there before. That should help, thanks.--Wizardman 03:13, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] February project Big Ten Conference

Would someone please take a look at the changes I'm making in the basketball section so I can get some feedback. Thanks. Rkevins 20:51, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't think the champs all need to be bolded, but I like what you're doing so far.--Wizardman 02:58, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] UWM confusion

For all of you not familiar with the University of Wisconsin System, UWM usually indicates University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. UW-Madison is the perferred term for the University of Wisconsin-Madison (where the Wisconsin Badgers are from). Thanks! Lordmontu (talk)(contribs) 23:21, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Harvey Friedman

Um, really? I mean, I know he's tied for most rushing touchdowns by a full professor during the regular season, but....

Don't get me wrong; if members of this project want to help out on his bio they're more than welcome. I was just a little surprised to see a WikiProject banner related to an athletic conference on the talk page. --Trovatore 07:32, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, I'm expanding it to really be about the 11 schools that make up said conference. Might get more people interested.--Wizardman 12:19, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Assessment

I have created an assessment section of the template, so we can begin that part of the wikiproject and start rating articles.--Wizardman 17:41, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

  • That's great, thanks. I just created 2005 Texas vs. Ohio State football game. I would love it if someone would assess it, please. Also, if any member of this WikiProject attended that game, it would be awesome if you could upload the photos and add them to the article. Best, Johntex\talk 09:22, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
