Russian language is the state language of the Russian Federation and the most spoken language in the country. Russian Wikipedia contains more articles than all another wikipedias in languages of Russia. Since almost all residents of Russia understand Russian language, it's Russian Wikipedia which is used as a backbone for constructing Wikipedia in other languages. Infoboxes, templates, geographical caterogization etc. are ported to other language editions from Russian one.

Tatar language is the second spoken language in Russia. That Wikipedia uses Zamanälif script, which is not recognized by federal authorities of Russia.
