[edit] Title

WikiProject on Warhammer 40,000

[edit] Scope

This project is intended to bring some order, consistency and restraint to the 'legion' of articles that are now on Wikipedia relating to Warhammer 40,000. Hopefully, it should reduce the numbers of articles to a managable level (through merging), and improve the overall quality of the articles. It should also allow a set of rules to be implemented for the articles that prevent their future decline into a non-encyclopedic state.

[edit] Parentage

Father of this WikiProject is WikiProject Role-playing games

[edit] Articles - Creating an Article

[edit] Article Structure & Layout

As there are quite a few different types of article relating to Warhammer 40,000, this section will provide links to subpages defining each one in turn. The list is by no means complete. Please add any more groups that you think are commonplace.

[edit] Proposed Goals

  1. Provide a series of guidelines to allow conformity between the articles.
  2. Provide notability critera for characters
  3. Provide guidelines on inclusion critera for canon and non-canon information
  4. Ensure all articles have references.
  5. Merge some of the small articles into related articles of greater size.
  6. Transwiki articles to other 40k wikis to preserve them

[edit] References, Bibliography and Sources

This is a listing of the references (complete with templates) that should be used when creating articles.

It is also suggested that a separate Bibliography section and a References section be added at the end of an article. The Bibliography section would contain only the most general references that apply to an article, while the References would have specific references used point-by-point for the article content.

Is is suggested that the reflist style be used for the references section, while the appropriate citation templates be used for the bibliography section.

DYN has a 72 hr. time limit from the creation of the article.

  • Someone's created a page dedicated to SM Librarians, The Librarians (Warhammer 40,000), though it's poorly written (at the moment), and to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure Librarians really need a page of there own, as any relevent (and missing) info can be added here. Darkson (Yabba Dabba Doo!) 17:26, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Obvious merge. I'll tag as such (noting here Librarians (Warhammer 40,000)). --Pak21 07:16, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Articles for Creation

This is a listing of requested articles for creation. Once the articles have been created, please move them to the relevant section (i.e. articles for expansion).

  • Can we get an article for some of the space marine special characters? I've noticed there aren't any!
  • Actually there are articles for nearly every space marine character which has been defined as notable, these pages can be found through the chapter pages of that marine eg. Mephiston in the Blood Angels or Ragnar Blackmane in the Space Wolves page. hope that helps :) Lowris 12:50, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
  • It seems to me to be more logical to have a 'Prominant Blood Angels' page or similar as opposed to indiviudal pages, because most articles I have seen appear to be stubs.XJDenton 23:48, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
  • What about the Tyrannic War Vetrans? Would they classify as a special character? They do have their own section in the Space Marine Codex, in the special characters pages, but they don't have an incredibly different setup.
  • Also, regarding the Warhammer 40,000 novels, such as Nightbringer, could those be used in the history sections as fluff? --Guilliaman 14:21, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I propose to start an article on Chaplain Erebus of the Word Bearers, considering he staged the corruption of Horus. Syrion 19:24, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Propose an article on Last Chancers, both from the in-universe perspective (Penal Legions), and in-game (army of 10 or so models. Darkson - BANG! 11:48, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Propose an article covering the GW 'Eavy Metal team (I realise it's not just a W40K project, but...) Darkson - BANG! 19:25, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Articles for Expansion

A list of articles that need to be expanded/bulked up.

  • Note: Please remove from this section once the article is sufficiently expanded.
  • Expansion of Tanith (Warhammer 40,000) with info from Guns of Tanith onwards, as I don't own any of those books. Background info on Tanith, as well as 'history' of the Ghosts. -- saberwyn 13:12, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
I don't quite know what all I can do, but I just got done reading His Last Command with Gaunt's Ghosts and the attack and then bombardment of the Mons. If that's ok, then I can help--Guilliaman 09:21, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Articles for Evaluation

A listing of articles for general evaluation. Whether you think the article needs to be rewritten, cleaned-up, wikified, sourced or grilled and roasted, this is the list for it.

  • Note: Please remove from this section once the article is sufficiently fixed.
  • Would members mind checking out my latest edits to the Night Lords page? I have attempted to bring it more in line with the WP:WAF by removing in-universe tone, fan speculation, original research and purple prose (I found that the majority of the article was either paraphrased or plagiarised straight from the Night Lords IA article. It needed removal anyway). Subsequently, there have been concerns raised that the edits are too drastic. I've stated some of my reasoning on the discussion page for that article and am happy to discuss further. Ultimately, I'd like to rewrite the entire article to a similar degree, and follow on with the rest of the legion articles.Primarch 14:13, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
  • The Chaos pages seem to have taken on a lot more gaming information than previously- especially in the combat doctrine. Should there be an effort to separate 40k game terminology from 40k fiction/fluff?Primarch 00:39, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Could someone please look at the Dark Angels page - I think that the fluff is plagiarised word for word from Codex: Angels of Death mattbuck 10:33, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Articles for Cleanup

This is a listing for articles that you think may need cleanup. To posters, please indicate (in bold text) what specifically needs cleaning-up about the article, whether it is written in-universe, context, tone or anything else.

  • Note: Please remove from this section once the article is sufficiently cleaned-up.
  • Timeline of the Warhammer 40,000 universe: this has survived AfD, but is frankly a complete mess. I really have no idea what to do with it, and personally am intending to let it bitrot. --Pak21 09:17, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
    • When I have some time I plan to look through it. --Falcorian (talk) 21:51, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
    • I had an attempt at cleanup, still needs alot of work though. -- XJDenton 02:38, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Images

Listing of requests concerning images.

  • More and better images of the Tau. Dfrg.msc 07:32, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image Upload

This is a listing of image upload requests. Please provide details for images that you want uploaded, and what page(s) they will be used for. Some helpful details would be the miniature itself, what version of the miniature, any specific army/color-scheme and the camera angle (if applicable) and distance.

Any particular paint scheme? XJDenton 05:28, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Umm, assuming anyone still cares, I can take any screenshots from Dawn of War. Erik212 (talk) 15:48, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

      • Request/Suggestion***

The Emperor page, Primarches subsection, perhaps a contravaling view to that or erebus would be appropriate? Perhaps mentioning that in the majority of fluff the Chaos Gods tried to destroy the primarches as fetuses(foeti?), but only succeeded in scattering them. It just seems odd that the only reference is from a black library publication, which is completely contrary to, well, everything else.

[edit] Miscellany

[edit] Miscellany for Evaluation

  • Proposed Guidelines
    • I've put together a first draft of some general style guidelines at /Style (largely based on saberwyn's 40k Glossary). Please look, comment and improve. Cheers --Pak21 11:31, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
  • In the references list, Xenology had somehow (almost certainly a copy-and-paste error by me, but I haven't actually checked the history) acquired the ISBN of Fire Warrior; this error may well have propogated into articles, but I can't find an easy way to check for this. If you see any references to Xenology, please check the ISBN: it should be 1-84416-282-6, not 1-84416-010-6. Cheers --Pak21 13:10, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
    • Yeah, it did get put in a few articles. I'm fixing it when I run into it. --Falcorian (talk) 19:35, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

How about a portal? I've made one for Graffiti (Portal: Graffiti), why not 40K? Dfrg.msc 07:32, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
