The interesting work is being done in the following (autonomous) WikiProjects:

WikiProject Chemicals, aiming at a full coverage of important chemical compounds.
WikiProject Elements, aiming at a full coverage of all chemical elements in the periodic table
WikiProject Isotopes (New), aiming at coverage of all 3100 known isotopes
WikiProject Rocks and Minerals, aiming at standardization for articles about rock and minerals
WikiProject Physical Chemistry, to better organize information in articles related to physical chemistry, and the overlap with chemical physics.
WikiProject Polymers, "to organize and disseminate all polymer related information on Wikipedia in a coordinated fashion."
Wikipedia:WikiProject Spectroscopy, "to better organize information in articles related to Spectroscopy."
WikiProject Water purification
Chemical infoboxes, providing specific, standard infoboxes for use in chemistry-related articles.
Chemistry Collaboration of the Month, aimed at improving underdeveloped chemistry-related articles.
