Hello, welcome to Wikipedia. You might like to start by reading the tutorial and introducing yourself at the new users page. If you have any questions, you can ask at the help desk or on my talk page. Two useful tips are that you can sign your name using four tildes (~~~~) and you can preview your changes before you save using the show preview button. You can regularly find new tips on the Community Portal. I look forward to reading your great articles and I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. :) Ambi 06:54, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ghan picture

Mike, I admired your photo "Ghan at Alice Springs.jpg" a lot (and we have a similar taste in cameras - I use a Camedia C-765, which is simlar to your 730 I think, and am considering a TZ too...) I would like to use the picture in a PowerPoint presentation, but in a way that will not allow me to attribute it to you as required by the licence. The reason is connected to me working for Serco, the company that runs the Ghan. I'd happily send you a url where you can see the finished presentation once it is published. Would that be acceptable by any chance? I'll only go ahead if it is. Thank you - Marc Fresko (marc.fresko@serco.com), sunny London, 2 March 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.22.0.164 (talk) 21:23, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

I understand that attribution may be difficult in a Powerpoint presentation (especially attribution of the type indicated by the commons page), so I do permit you to use the image as indicated, provided that there be attribution information included (for example in the notes part - which is not visible on screen but can be read by people with a copy of the presentation on their computer) in the PowerPoint file as per the license. --Mike (talk) 01:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks Mike, will do. Marc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.34.55.151 (talk) 17:59, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Australia resources

Hi, I see from your note on the New user log that you are Australian residing in Australia. Just thought I'd let you know about the Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board. Always interesting stuff to read there, and I personally find that it helps you to feel more like part of a community. Also, there is a Wikipedia:WikiProject Sydney that I am sure people would love assistance on. If you have any questions feel free to drop me a line on my Talk page. cheers! pfctdayelise 06:41, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The Champion

Thanks for pointing out that The Champion needed to be merged into Champion (disambiguation). I went ahead and took care of it.  :) --Elonka 19:22, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jimbo is coming to Sydney

Sorry to spam you if you aren't interested. See Wikipedia:Meetup/Sydney#April 25th for more info if you are interested. - Ta bu shi da yu 08:53, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] APOD Userbox

I was talking about this the other night when we met Jimbo: User:UBX/APOD --One Salient Oversight 03:16, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Yep - but while I visit it often, it is not every day... :-) --Mike 02:06, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Added Rainwater Tank links to Appropedia

Following up on your request at the recent meetup in Sydney, I've added a couple of links to the External Links section of the Category:Rainwater page on Appropedia. Hope they help. --Mike 09:27, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I saw them that day (but have only had time to respond now). Thanks, they're great! --Chriswaterguy talk 13:58, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Baby names

You wouldn't happen to have any other links to the other parts of Australia that list the popularity of their baby names. I figure that even if it doesn't fit in one template, it would be useful to have a link to all of the official state sites that list popularity of baby names. Remember 12:54, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] G'day

G'day esteemed person who has expressed interest in Sydney based meetups at this page (I hope that's the correct wording for the formal greeting!!). You may have heard that Australia is to have its very own 'chapter' of the Wikimedia Foundation - and further, there's a meeting coming up to discuss / enact the chapter's incorporation (details here). I'm afraid that I don't know too much about the details of what this entails, other than having a private hope that we might get a secret handshake, and maybe cheap coffee at wikimania (this is a poor attempt at humour - I'm sure that the Chapter's do great work, and it's a good thing that Australia is to have one).

If you're interested in meeting up this weekend (the set date is the 20th) - or later, then please do head over here and sign up, or make a comment at the talk page... the drive to create the chapter has largely come from another town in Australia that I'm afraid I haven't actually heard much about.. and anything they can do.... right? - cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 11:11, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Drinks and a wiki chat?

G'day sydneysider - fancy a 'not quite a meetup but a few drinks' sort of thing? - We can chat about the new aussie chapter, the price of eggs and have our very own 2020 Wiki Summit! - or just sink a couple of cold ones and gass bag about the good 'ol days of wiki, when an editor could get some repsect (not a typo)! I've suggested something here so take a look and sign up if you're up for it... cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 02:28, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
