[edit] Reoganizing the Wikibooks templates

Should we reorganize these and even merge them all? It would be easy enough using m:Parser_functions. --Swift 03:34, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

I've set up a Proof of Concept template at {{wikibooks-poc}}. Please have a look. --Swift 01:55, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Looks good, but the old one is needed too, because there are a lot of books using the colon convention. Cookbooks in particular has a lot of pages, many of which are linked from WP. --SB_Johnny | talk 11:43, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
The colon convention has been deprecated and those books should be changed to the new convention. Once that is done, the template is redundant. --Swift 16:08, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Yes, but unfortunately there are some grandfathered, and some namespaced.
Will template usages with subst: show up as links to the templates, BTW? --SB_Johnny | talk 16:19, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Grandfathered? Namespaced? My understanding was that WB didn't like giving namespaces to books/projects since they aren't made for that purpose. Could you give some links/examples?
The subst:-s won't matter because they've been ... err ... subst:-ed. A template that is substituted doesn't reference the template any more. The contents of the template are simply inserted into the article once and for all so changing the template doesn't change the substituted content. --Swift 21:17, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
The Cookbook has its own templates, see Wikipedia:Template_messages/Links#Wikibooks which, by the way, I've just suggested be merged. --Swift 23:13, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
I've just upgraded the template with changes from {{Wikibooks-poc}}. I'm going to start deprecating the others. See User:Swift/Projects#Wikibooks for a table with redundancies. --Swift 22:15, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TfD nomination of Template:Wikibookspar

Template:Wikibookspar has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. Swift 22:02, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Template survived with a speedy keep due to number of articles using it. {{Wikibooksarticle}} seems like it will be deleted, though. --Swift 22:21, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TfD nomination of deprecated Wikibooks templates

Template:Book, and other deprecated Wikibooks templates, have been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the templates' entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. -- kenb215 21:42, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bold link

Shouldn't the content link be bolded to be consistent with the other wiki sisterlinks? Vicarious 19:39, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Done. --- RockMFR 17:25, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Wikibooks" for our purposes are external links

Do not link to a wikibooks article simply because it is there. Wikibooks is essentially a free webhost for cranks. Only link to a "wikibook" if it is of a quality that would justify an external link to a non-wikimedia site. dab (𒁳) 11:41, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tricky one

How do I put up a wikibook reference to http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Robotics:_Design_Basics:_Design_software using this template? --Abdull (talk) 16:03, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

I see -- this template assumes the "book name/chapter name" convention, although Robotics and a few other books have the "book name: chapter name" convention.

I suppose you could do it this way:

   {{wikibooks|Robotics: Design Basics: Design software}}

Is there a better way? --68.0.124.33 (talk) 23:15, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Atlas Shrugged and other non-copyrighted content

Wikibooks has a book on the topic of

Shouldn't there be a section for primary sources that are in wikibooks such as for the article Atlas Shrugged? --Keerllston 22:00, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

You mean like wikisource?--Joel (talk) 06:15, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
