Category talk:Wikipedia images
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The caterogation system here before last friday (December 1) was a nightmare. I've worked to streamline it, and added some new categories, like "Images by subject" "Images requiring maintenance" and some other subcats. Many of the pages here would be better serves if they were in subcats, and I've gradually been moving them as well. Any help to make this a productive jumping off point for categorizing images would be welcome. I'm shocked it hasn't bee done already.--Esprit15d (talk ¤ contribs) 19:01, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Necessity of this
Hi, I want to know if you think that having both separate categories for articles & images, is necessary. IMO, taking advantage of the MediaWiki that permits categorizing both articles images and even subcats in a category we should use only one. These should be per topic, for example:
image:Millenium Park Fountain 3.jpg shouldn't be categorized in Cat:Images of Chicago, Illinois, but instead at Cat:Parks in Chicago. Hope you hold attention at this dramatic proposal. thanks--Andersmusician VOTE 01:26, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- We should get images off of Wikipedia in general, unless they're fair use. Why do we still allow local uploads of copyleft images? (messedrocker • talk) 01:51, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

- yeah, that would be a looking-forward proposal, although pretty hard to do (unless we use bots) --Andersmusician VOTE 02:46, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
