Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire? was a Fox network reality TV show in which "multi-millionaire" Rick Rockwell asked Darva Conger to marry him. The show was aired as a single two-hour broadcast on February 15, 2000, and was hosted by Jay Thomas.

In the show, 50 women competed to be the bride of an unknown multi-millionaire (Rockwell) whom they did not see except in silhouette. At the end of the show, Rockwell chose Conger to be his wife and married her on the spot. In addition to being wed to a multi-millionaire, she also won a three-carat (600-mg) diamond ring and more than $100,000 in prizes. More than 23 million people viewed the show that evening.

[edit] Controversy

After the honeymoon, it was announced that Conger was seeking an annulment because Rockwell had misrepresented himself. The annulment was finalized on April 5. Rockwell claimed to be a millionaire real estate investor, but in fact he only dabbled in real estate as well as screenwriting and standup comedy. Rockwell's past was also checkered by numerous restraining orders filed by former girlfriends and roommates. After the show aired, Conger made numerous public comments about how she was offended by Rockwell's forcibly kissing her on stage, that they never consummated their marriage, and how the entire episode went against her morals.
