In 1982, Hinckley, Illinois served as stand-in for fictional North Crawford in Jonathan Demme's film adaptation of Who Am I This Time? by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr..[1] Christopher Walken portrays a painfully shy hardware store clerk. Susan Sarandon's character has recently moved into the community. They meet one another through a local theater production of A Streetcar Named Desire, in which they portray the tempestuous Stanley and Stella Kowalski. She is attracted to his stage presence but finds him difficult to catch off-stage. As the rehearsals progress, she realizes he comes to life only when acting and so she gets him to admit his feelings through her closing-night gift: a copy of Romeo and Juliet. The story ends with him proposing via Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest.
