Whitworth Park

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Whitworth Park is an area in south Manchester, United Kingdom. Whitworth Art Gallery and some of the University of Manchester student residences are located there.

The actual park, of some 18 acres (7 ha), located opposite Manchester Royal Infirmary, was opened in 1890 on a piece of land known as Potters Field. The park was donated to the then City Corporation by the Whitworth Trustees in October 1904 on a 1000-year lease for a nominal annual rent of £10.
