I have rewritten a good deal of this article since:

  • a. there is no actual village called Whittingham, although it gives its name to the civil parish which includes Goosnargh. (see the Lancashire Parish Portal website)
  • b. the history of the hospital was quite clearly set down in the the first of the references, so much of the text was incorrect here.
  • c. the railway had a purpose - again mentioned in the reference
  • d. the first of the refs led nowhere to do with Whittingham; two others had little to do with the article, since the first one was never mentioned; and the second was only connected with people having the name of Whittingham.

Finally, to say that the village is "in the city of Preston" is a little odd. The city boundaries include a good deal of open space, and it is IMO better to say "within the city area of Preston". Hope that isn't too pedantic! Peter Shearan 15:32, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
