[edit] History

The station which operates on UHF channel 53 signed on the air on May 25, 1987 as an independent station until 1995, when it joined UPN. When the station first went on the air, it was co-owned with WFLI radio, a radio station licensed to Lookout Mountain, TN. It was later sold by Ying Hua Benns to Lambert Broadcasting in 1997, and further switched networks to The WB in 2001. In 2004, WFLI again changed hands and was sold to Meredith Broadcasting (www.meredith.com), owner of television stations and publications nationally. On March 7, 2006, The CW announced that WFLI would be the network's Chattanooga affiliate when the network launched.

On November 26, 2007, Meredith Broadcasting announced the sale of WFLI to MPS Media, the owner of several CW affiliates in the eastern part of the country, including WSWB in Scranton, Pennsylvania and WTLF in Tallahassee, Florida. [1] The sale closed on April 1, 2008. WFLI will be expected to enter into a shared services agreement (SSA) with New Age Media, LLC, the owner of the local Fox affiliate WDSI-TV.
