West Garfield Park located on the west side of Chicago, Illinois, is one of 77 officially designated Chicago community areas. The area has also undergone some gentrification in its northern boundaries but not to the same degree as East Garfield Park, Chicago. Though the real-estate boom of the early 2000's had brought early optimism that residential and business redevelopment would revitalize the area, it evaporated soon after, and by 2007 West Garfield Park had the fifth highest percentage of foreclosures per square mile in all of Chicago.[1].
