West Babylon is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 43,452 at the 2000 census.

West Babylon is located at (40.713399, -73.357106)[3].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the hamlet has a total area of 8.0 square miles (20.8 km²), of which, 7.7 square miles (20.0 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it (3.87%) is water. [1].

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 43,452 people, 14,268 households, and 10,943 families residing in the hamlet. The population density was 5,638.8 per square mile (2,176.0/km²). There were 14,571 housing units at an average density of 1,890.9/sq mi (729.7/km²). The racial makeup of the hamlet was 83.79% White, 10.32% African American, 0.12% Native American, 1.90% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 2.03% from other races, and 1.83% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.70% of the population.
There were 14,268 households, out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 12.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.3% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.00 and the average family size was 3.42.
In the hamlet the population was spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 32.6% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the hamlet was $60,862, and the median income for a family was $67,015. Males had a median income of $47,378 versus $32,412 for females. The per capita income for the hamlet was $22,280. About 4.2% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.1% of those under age 18 and 6.7% of those age 65 or over.
