[edit] Recent Events

I went to Western Kentucky. Something needs to be mentioned on this page about how a goat was raped by a faternity. It made national headlines and even made it into Jay Leno's monologue. I have a link to the newspaper article.[1](68.32.109.8 00:18, 4 May 2006 (UTC))

Why should that be mentioned? If it's true (by which I mean, if the AGRs were lying when they said they were playing mind games with pledges) then it's a real embarassment to the University and to all Hilltopper Alumni. A suggestion I have for the page is to possibly add a link to the WKU Alumni Association site as well. I would add one, but I figure that it's not there for a reason. 68.62.229.65 01:47, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

I was active in the WKU SGA for several years. The people writing the section and filling it with vanity should also consider the fact that others could write a well documented section on the insane number of scandals that have plagued the "active, well respected" SGA over the past 5 years. Maybe we should just stick to the facts worthy of mention in an encylopedia... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.140.232.128 (talk • contribs)

I disagree that this embarrassing incident (the goat) should be dwelled on in the text. However, I would prefer to see less hype in the entry. By any independent evaluation the nursing and journalism programs, good though they may be, do not "rank among the best in the country" by any identifiable assessment independent of WKU wishful thinking (though the photojournalism program certainly does)--if for no other reason than the fact that students in these majors must also take many classes from other departments on campus that are far from being nationally remarkable. Neither are the Lady Toppers basketball team "consistently ranked in the top twenty," though every several years or so (over the past ten years) they have closely approached or dipped into it.

There was simply too much biased information under "Greek Life". Positive attributes of certain fraternities or sororities were posted, however negative (and documented) attributes of others were labeled as "vandalism." This lead to a pro-Greek bias in the article, which was remedied by removing the "Greek Life" section altogether.Simply put, the Goat sex indicident was the most widely reported (local and national media) story related to "Greek Life" at WKU in decades. If such a key story cannot be included under "Greek Life," then the entry is no longer informative and neutral, but rather just a biased mini-advertisement for Greek organizations. Seeing as Greeks are a small minority in terms of the overall student body at WKU, they were over-represented in this entry previously anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.218.202.213 (talk) 05:48, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Please accept my apologies for the undo. From the diff it seemed that a relatively harmless list of fraternities had been arbitrarily deleted. Again, sorry. --Malachirality (talk) 05:52, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Why not just list the fraternities and sororities and leave it at that? Or handle it the same way as it is on the University of Kentucky article? --rogerd (talk) 05:57, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Athletics

The Athletics section needs to be revised. Many new things have happened. They are renovating their football stadium, building a new track facility, and the lady hilltoppers basketball team made it to the finals in the wnit last year.(68.32.109.8 10:41, 14 September 2006 (UTC))
