Description

The Western Metal Supply Co. Building (commonly referred to as the Western Metals Building) in PETCO Park. The historic exterior of this building was preserved and incorporated into the construction of PETCO Park, which opened in 2004. The building is located in the left field corner; the yellow metal stripe on the corner of the building serves as PETCO Park's substitute for the usual left field foul pole. (Therefore, a ball striking the face of the building seen here is a fair ball home run, while the side of the building to the left - not visible from this angle, just beyond the yellow stripe - is foul territory.) The interior of the building has been converted into suites (with cantilevered seating balconies, seen here on the second and third floors), dining facilities (on the fourth floor), a viewing terrace (on the roof), and the stadium gift shop (on the ground floor, including access to the standing-room-only area beneath the 334 marking).

One of the stadium's two auxiliary entrances is located adjacent to the back corner of the building, at the T intersection of Seventh Avenue and K Street. (The other is behind the right field bleachers at Tenth Avenue and K Street, also a T intersection as the portion of K between Seventh and Tenth has been converted into a pedestrian concourse around the outfield seating areas. The main entrance is behind first base on the Tenth Avenue side.)
