Wikipedia talk:Welcoming committee/members

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is getting far too large. Probably time to turn it into a user category. Isomorphic 02:11, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

We could possibly have a monthly roll call. Deckiller 02:22, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

We could use Category:User Wikipedia/Welcoming committee, similar to Category:User Wikipedia/RC patrollers. Or Category:Welcoming committee, similar to Category:Esperanzians? Then we could create a userbox which includes the category. haz (user talk)e 20:19, 20 February 2006

[edit] Welcoming welcomers

Should we welcome people onto the welcome committee, or is that too ironic?--ikiroid | (talk) 03:02, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

I used to do that, but I kind of lost track a while back. Some people thought it was ironic, but most of them appreciated it anyway. We should probably start doing it again. So, should we form a subdivision of the welcoming committee called Wikipedia:Welcoming Committee/Welcoming Committee? Um, probably not. A template might be helpful, though. --TantalumTelluride 03:56, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Greeting Collections

As I was settling on a customized greeting to post, I noticed quite a variety. Yes, I know we have a template, but would it serve well to collect these on a subpage here for convenient posting. It would become kind of like a Welcome Wagon kit. --CTSWyneken 21:00, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] To Join...

Are there any requirements to join? I expect not. The WikiWhippet (deeds)

WP:WC states:
"There are no requirements for joining us save a good attitude and a willingness to show newcomers some of the ropes and field questions."
So... welcome to the welcoming committee... ;-) --oKtosiTe talk 18:04, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Some members of committee are no longer active

Essjay mentions on his user page that he has retired. What is wikipedia etiquette? Have user remove their own name? Remove it for them? With articles, it's clear. One edits out mistakes or facts that are no longer true.VK35 21:49, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Small layout issue in Firefox 2 on OS X

The {{Wikipedia:Welcoming committee/Navigation}} box gets wrapped to two lines on lower resolutions, hiding the first line of text on the page behind it. --oKtosiTe talk 12:57, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Archive for this page?

Does anyone have a problem with me creating subpages for the list of members? I have a 5mbit/s internet connection, and this page still takes quite a while to load/scroll. I can only imagine what it is like for users who don't have broadband internet. Thingg (talk) 22:14, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

I think that's a great idea. Bassg☢☢nist T C 05:40, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
