Talk:Wellsville, New York

Wellsville refers to both a village and a town, two distinct political entities in Allegany County, New York. There are many other village/town, shared name situations in New York and other places. Until the Village of Wellsville abandons its incorporation (which it recently decided NOT to do), it deserves to be treated as a separate entity from the town. Is there a plan underway to merge all these same-named entities? I hope not, because maybe some one wants to merge New York City with New York State too. Stepp-Wulf 02:38, 19 June 2006 (UTC).

But there is no difference in the town or the village! I live in wellsville. No one here is like "i'm from the town of wellsville" or "I'm from the village of wellsville" the only time when the terms town or village come up is when you talk about where your water comes from, what taxes you pay, and if you work for one or the other repairing roads or something mundane like that. So these two should be merged on here atleast. Cause the only reason they aren't merged in actual life is cause of paying taxes people don't want to pay. Do they pay them on here? no!, merge them! :-)

I agree! Merge these two topics. They contain the same info, more or less, and the difference in Village and Town (for the purposes of Wikipedia) is purely academic. Keep politics out of it and merge them.

It doesn't matter. All census subdivisions are worthy of an article. And yes, there are MANY places in New York that have the same name for the town and the village. There are also often towns where the village has a different name, but practically, the situation is the same. These articles absolutely should not be merged, if only for the fact that census subdivisions always warrant an article (and so, apparently, do municipalities). I'm removing the merge templates.   • Absolutely! The only Town-Village mergers justified are the handful of Towns that are ALSO villages in NY. Stepp-Wulf 00:51, 23 August 2006 (UTC).
