Talk:We Gotta Get Out of This Place

[edit] Title question
Both "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" and "We've Gotta Get Out of This Place" have been used. Which is the proper title for the article and the references within, "We ..." or "We've ..."? User:E-Kartoffel has taken it on his/her own to decide "We've" is the right form, based on the "original Columbia records single release label", and change it here and in many references to it in other articles. However, that one usage is not the sole determinant; we must use the most common and accurate title, not the "first".
In fact, the large majority of authoritative references use the "We" form:
- The BMI database, i.e. the song's publisher (a search for the "We've" form comes up empty; this is as official a source as you can have)
- The songwriters' bio page
- Rolling Stone's page on the song
- the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's article on the group
- The 1983 Joel Whitburn Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits that I have
- U.S. labels, such as The Best of the Animals 1966 LP I have
- On the actual recording, Burdon is clearly singing "We"
In addition, there is Google:
Finally, E-Kartoffel's main evidence, seemingly the picture sleeve of the UK single, is doubly flawed: "We've Gotta Get Out This Place" leaves out the "Of"! Clearly the title there was messed up.
Given all this evidence, it is clear that "We" is proper, and I have undone E-Kartoffel's changes. Wasted Time R (talk) 05:22, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
