[edit] Shaver reference test

Eventually, to improve Philips brand recognition in the USA, Philips began branding their shavers "Philips Norelco" in 2005. The Philips Norelco co-branding will allow for an eventual phase out of the Norelco name in favour of the Philips name.[1] [2]

[edit] Minneapolis article

(to/from user talk:susanlesch)

Hi, Susan; I remember meeting you at the last meet-up; we walked and talked a bit. Regarding your issues with my edits to Minneapolis, Minnesota, per your "revert to 20:53, 3 February 2008, old nickname discussion is archived on talk page. If you wish to reformat all the refs please discuss why on the talk page":

  1. You had moved the "Murderapolis" discussion to a "Minneapolis in popular culture" section which no longer exists. Somehow it ended up in a "Media" section, but to me it just didn't seem to fit in there. It still seems to me that it fits best in the context of the "Government" section, since that's where the discussion of crime is. Since you have a history with that passage, I'll let you deal with it.
  2. I changed two things during my reformat of the references:
    1. I broke up references of the form
      <ref>{{cite web}} and {{cite web}} and {{cite web}}</ref>
into separate references of the form
      <ref>{{cite web}}</ref><ref>{{cite web}}</ref><ref>{{cite web}}</ref>
since that seemed to be more in the style of how most references are done. Otherwise, the cites all run together in the reference.
    2. I changed {{cite web}} and other cites from the horizontal to the vertical format. That just seems easier to edit for me, and I thought most people would agree.

I think my 2.1 and 2.2 changes fell into the category of general cleanup, but if you could give me some pointers as to why they shouldn't have been done, such as WP:MOS, I'd like to read them. Wdfarmer (talk) 00:24, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I can tell you what I think but there are hundreds of contributors.

  1. No reason to carry forward an old nickname at all. I would completely remove it.
  2. Wikipedia does not have a format for citations. This one is copied and I adopted it and use it everywhere (and with one exception see it used by others in WikiProject Minnesota). I do recall somewhere in wikietiquette that it is nice for new editors on an article to ask first before making changes to citation formats and suggest you ask on the article talk page first. Better yet I would suggest talking not to me but to the folks who argue this all day at the citation template pages and WP:MOS.
  3. Combined references are tricky, and used sparingly. At maturity level review for GA or FA at least where I come from you'd be asked to not include strings of [n][n][n]. Hope this helps. Please move this away from my talk page to the Minneapolis talk page if there is more. Thanks and best wishes.
