Wayne S. Smith is a former US diplomat, and currently an academic and author.
He was head of the US Interests Section (equivalent to an Embassy where no diplomatic relations exist) under president Jimmy Carter, and distinguished himself for his approach towards dialogue with the Cuban regime.
He later became an academic, and is currently at Johns Hopkins University. He is one of the major skeptics about the US embargo against Cuba.
