Wayne Ellington (born October 29, 1987 in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania), is an American basketball player who began playing for the North Carolina Tar Heels in the 2006-07 season. He attended high school at The Episcopal Academy, an Inter-Ac school, along with Gerald Henderson, Jr., who now plays for Duke University. Ellington, 6'4" tall and 195 lbs, is a sophomore shooting guard. Through 31 games, Ellington has started 30 and is currently averaging 11.8 points per game, 2.7 rebounds per game, and 2.3 assists per game. A major accomplishment of Ellington's young collegiate career is when he scored 19 points in honor of his nineteenth birthday in a 98-89 win over Ohio State."[1] His career-best performance came during a 90-88 overtime win against Clemson on January 6, 2008, in which he led all scorers with 36 points.

Ellington attended The Episcopal Academy in Merion, Pennsylvania. He scored 2,211 points in his high school career, including 1,756 points at The Episcopal Academy and 455 points at Daniel Boone High School in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania Next to his other teammate Jonathan Olm with 2,009. In his senior year, Ellington averaged 21.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and shot 39% from the 3-Point line. He led Episcopal Academy to an overall record of 52-7 in his junior and senior year. He also led Episcopal Academy to the Inter-Academic League Conference title in his last two years going 20-0 in both seasons. (Episcopal Academy doesn't play in state championships.)

Ellington played in all 38 games for the ACC Champion Tar Heels in 2006-2007, averaging 11.7 points per game. He was named to the 2007 ACC All-Tournament Team. His season ended on a sour note though, as North Carolina held a big lead over Georgetown late in the East Regional final of the NCAA Tournament, only to watch Georgetown rally, force overtime, and win the game. Ellington had a chance to win the game in regulation, but missed a 3-pointer in the final seconds.
As a sophomore, Ellington has seen his points-per-game average increase as the Tar Heels increasingly go to him in key moments of games. In the January 6, 2008 game at Clemson, Ellington scored a career high 36 points, including the game winning three-pointer with 0:00.4 seconds left in overtime to lead top-rated UNC over #19 Clemson 90-88.[2] But again, his season ended in a poor fashion, as he shot only 1 for 9 from three-point range, in a loss to Kansas in a national semifinal game in the NCAA Tournament.

Ellington was a member of the team that represented the U.S. in men's basketball at the 2007 Pan American Games.
