Wattrelos (Dutch: Waterloos; older forms: Waterlooz or Waterlos) is a commune in the Northern department and the Nord-Pas de Calais region of France. It is located on the border with Belgium, northeast of the city of Lille. It the fifth-largest component of the metropolitan Urban Community of Lille Métropole. In the 1999 census, Wattrelos had a population of 42,753. The name is literally of the same meaning as Waterloo (which is "Water-less", see los, loo, loos, lose), of which they both are now Dutch in name, although The Saxon or Frankish in origin.
