Water Stratford
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Water Stratford is a village in Buckinghamshire, England. It is located in the Aylesbury Vale, near the border with Oxfordshire, about three miles west of Buckingham.
The village name 'Stratford' is a common one in England, and means 'ford by a Roman road'. The Roman road is still traceable in the village. The prefix 'Water' was added to differentiate the village from other places called Stratford.
[edit] Notable Residents
Joseph Bosworth, scholar of Anglo-Saxon, was a churchman here, as was John Mason, early hymnwriter and proclaimer of The Second Coming of Christ. More recent ex-residents are Paul Daniels, magician, and Peter Woodthorpe, actor.
