GENERAL: Wattscooke was a professor of Theatre/Film/Broadcast Performance for over 25 years with a number of universities, colleges, and conservatories in the U.S. and abroad. He was also a professional actor for more than 30 years, appearing in some 75 roles for stage, film, television, and radio. He is the author of a number of articles on acting, voice, and performance criticism for both scholarly and popular publications.
KOREAN ARTS & POPULAR CULTURE: Wattscooke was invited by the Korean Government in 1995 to become a Visiting Professor and develop the Country's first Acting Conservatory at the Korean National University of the Arts. He remained there through 1997; and returned in 1999. During his time there, and afterward, he edited several Korean-to-English-language scholarly publications. He also worked professionally with the Korean National Theatre and the Hyundai Theatre Company as a Voice Teacher/Vocal Coach.
At that time, several of the country's musical production/recording companies were also involved in theatrical projects--and he was invited to direct and consult for a couple of these. In the process, he was given an inside look at the Korean Gasoo/Gayo industry, and became personally acquainted with some of Korea's most popular singers, dancers, and dance groups. Thus, he himself is a primary source for this area of Korean music during that period.
