Talk:Water buffalo rumen ecology

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm not sure what this article is actually about. It really doesn't say in the body. It relly needs somebody with some knowledge about biology/ecology to take a look. -- Whpq 17:57, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

This heading must be changed back to Water buffalo or swamp Buffalo Rumen Ecology -this is the msot correct name and most suitable and widly used terminology.

Hi. Your username suggests you are the author of a number of works on swamp buffalos so I acknowledge your expertise on this issue.
My problem with the name "swamp buffalo" in preference to "carabao" is that Wikipedia has an extensive article on carabaos, and swamp buffalo redirects to it. It is more user-friendly for a consistent naming to be used, so that people interested in the topic can find all related information quickly.
Given your expertise on this subject, could I suggest that you propsoe on the "Carabao" page that it be renamed "Swamp buffalo" or similar, and that Carabao redirect to that name? That would make it easier to redirect this one as well. Euryalus 03:49, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Further to the above, I have moved it to "Water buffalo rumen ecology" and chanegd the links from the carabao and TROFREC pages. I hope this addresses your concern. Euryalus 06:48, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Generalize

Why does a specific species get a particular page on a process that occurs in most, if not all members of it's family? I say either integrate this as a section into Bovidae or at least zoom out the scope to cover the entire family. We don't have pages like "Respiration in Betta splendens" and we don't need to. I agree that this could reasonably be merged with another article. I would suggest merging with Water buffalo as it more directly relates to this topic than Bovidae. Euryalus 10:08, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
I'd merge it with Rumen. It's more about stomachs than it is about water buffalo. Stevage 06:39, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
