[edit] Origin and recording

The song was a Ten outtake and one of the very first songs the band wrote.[1] According to guitarist Stone Gossard in the Lost Dogs liner notes, the song was written instantaneously.[1] Stone Gossard on the song:

It sounds good. I love the anti-guitar solo by Mike. He sort of rubs his strings and with minimal effort colors the solo section beautifully.[1]

[edit] Live performances

The song was premiered live at the band's February 8, 1991 concert in Long Beach, California.[2] A live performance of "Wash" can be found on the Live at the Gorge 05/06 box set.
