War Game is a children's novel about World War I. Written by Michael Foreman in 1993[1], the story describes a group of four young men (Will, Freddie, Billy, and Lacey) who are eager to go for "the grand adventure". The story goes from training in England, to the arrival in France, to the famed Christmas Truce, to the Battle of the Somme. The four characters in the book are based on Foreman's uncles who were killed in the war.[citation needed] In key points of the story, the author also points out information on what happened during the war.[2] In 2001, the British animation company Illuminated Films[3] made the animated short film War Game, based on the story.[4]
