Talk:Ward's 10 Best Engines

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

changed Porsche 3.2 & 2.7 from DOHC to SOHC

Porsche did not use DOHC on production 911 engiens until the type 996 engines

it did use DOHC on race engines like the 906 and on the 959 wich was a special case and on the 356 Carrera (flat 4 engines )

Ward's said it was a DOHC in 2000, 2001, and 2002. I don't know what to tell you - I'll have to do some more research. --SFoskett 19:31, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)
Update: Every resource I can find says the Boxster used a DOHC engine in 2000, 2001, and 2002. These are the winning engines. I have reverted SOHC to DOHC unless other evidence is presented. --SFoskett 19:40, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

It is kind of discussing how Wards always have to play the political game and award some american engines that have little merit and are technologically outdated. Dr Varcisolo 22:42, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] my bad

saw 2.7 flat six, and immidiately though 911 2.7 which is older true, the boxster has DOHC

i added Boxster , to avoid future confusion

[edit] Probable error

There are 11 engines listed for 1996. Can't seem to find any external list, so I don't know which is the erroneous addition.

[edit] criteria

I'd like to see someone determine Ward's criteria for judging the 10 best engines, and include that in the article. Any ideas? Crabapplecove 00:21, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How about

Going to www.wardsauto.com or subscribing to the magazine?

[edit] I'd hate to see the worst

If this list of mediocre Americocentric garbage are the best powerplants they can come up with...then it speaks volumes about the Ward's as a publication

Garbage, huh. Well I can agree that this list is quite questionable, as they left off the "americocentric" Chevrolet 350 (5.7L) V8, many of which see 300,000 miles of usage. That, and the derived 4.3L V6, of which every one I have owned has seen over 200,000 miles with no problems. In favor of these solid engines, they put in some crappier "environmentally friendly" stuff.

[edit] Missing an entry

The year 1999 is missing the Chrysler 4.7L PowerTech V8 SOHC engine. --76.196.226.180 23:40, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I added the Chrysler entry for 1999. --AdamJRed 00:10, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mercedes turbodiesel american?

Why is the Mercedes V6 turbodiesel american? Even when it was developed in the USA (why should it be?) Mercedes-Benz is still German, especially now that Daimer-Crysler is history. Sorry an american flag before Mercedes-Benz looks just absurd.

[edit] Duramax and Isuzu or GM

While it is true that GM and Isuzu have a joint venture for producing the Duramax diesel engine (2001 and 2002 list), the official lists on Ward's webpage list GM as the manufacturer. Shouldn't they be listed as the manufacturer on this page as well? FlatEric521 05:12, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] BMW Mini - Brazilian Engine Made in Campo Largo - PR

Happy to say, I was the Engineer responsible for the Cylinder Block from Mini in 2003, word´s 10 best engines. That was a fantastic time.

F.B.

[edit] probable error response- 1996 11 engines listed

http://wardsautoworld.com/ar/auto_guts_glory_ten/ is where you can find the original 1996 article of winners. Ford's Duratec 2.5L doesnt seem to be here. Only the 4.6L V8 for that year. The 2.5L is on the 1995 list... Maxima1016 (talk) 16:21, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
